CHAIR Champions 0.3: New Racing Mode & much more!
It is finally done! πͺπ₯³
After 6 months of development, Version 0.3 has been released!

The biggest feature is, of course, the long overdue racing mode! It took me FOREVER (over a year of trying around!) to figure out how to check for positions and sort every contestant in real-time! Once I figured that out the rest was much easier to add! ;)
Other highlights of this update include separate Singleplayer and Two-Player-Buttons in the title menu, which makes for a much cleaner UI;
You are now also able to add your name and save it with any record you set.
Quite a lot has been tweaked on the AI opponents and the chair behaviours, too:
- The AI opponents were twice as fast as the player until now - and I have just halved their speed in their code...
However, this caused some funny movement behaviours on water puddles and before curves. This is fixed now, so their movements look "normal" now. π
I have also nerfed the hard AI a bit and made them a little slower than before (they are still faster than the player π).
- Pushing others away with a chair now works correctly: before, the "pushing forces" have only been applied on your own chair when you rammed another opponent. Now, you will also apply the "power" to others, as originally intended. This makes the "The Boss"-chair much more usable!π€π₯
- Most other chair stats have been tweaked as well for balancing reasons, so the different chairs can compete better against each others!
- The game checks now for double characters for the AI opponents! Whenever there is a double character, it will be replaced with a unique character, so there are no more double AI characters in a race!
Besides, I have fixed every bug I came across and that has been reported by players! :)

So, why took this all so long? All the features and bugfixes surely could have been made in at least half the time!
Well, for once, my daughter has been born at the end of last year which made things at home a bit... difficult and different than before - and was draining much time & energy as well! πΆπΌπΌ
Everything is going well though, it just kept me from gamedev π
Then, again, I had to get my head around the position detection mechanic to be able to finish the racing mode at last!
Once I have figured this out I could add all the other features you can see in the changelog and in-game! :)
The cool thing about the character checking is that it also paves the way for more game modes to come: different cups and an "elimination" mode ('last one sitting' ;)) for the next versions!

- restarting a race will let you race against exactly the same AI opponents now, instead of getting random opponents every time
- replaced screenshots of the starting areas of a track with videos of a whole round in the track selection menu
- added the possibility to enter player names which will be saved and displayed with the records and shown after a race
- Player names are now written above the player characters before a race starts
- reduced respawn time for power ups to 2s
- reduced respawn time for energy drinks to 3s
- many minor bugfixes
